Tension Builds As We Wait For Spring

Does it look like Spring yet?


The clocks will do their annual spring ahead thing this weekend, but do you think Spring is really just around the corner? Take a look at our imagery of LaSalle Park in Burlington, on the north side of Hamilton Harbour taken Spring 2012:

It’s what you don’t see that’s important… snow.

Here at First Base Solutions, we count on fair weather to melt the snow pack in order to get our planes out there to update our orthophoto library for you. The imagery above was captured on March 10th, 2012. March 10th, 2015 is next Monday, yet we’re getting another Winter storm in the GTA later today.

If you look closely in the imagery, there are actually people on the beach watching the trumpeter swans that overwinter in the harbour. I for one have no plans to hit the beach this weekend, and we obviously won’t be flying next week either. Wiarton Willie has some explaining to do this year. Do you think the snow will be gone so we can collect 2015 imagery before the end of March?

Standardized and simplified spatial references EPSG stands for European Petroleum Survey Group. They publish a database of coordinate system information. The EPSG number is a 4 to 6 digit number that represents the parameters of a coordinate reference system. EPSG numbers are embedded in georeferenced files, and assigned by the user to mapping projects that can display those files.
